What is a Methodist?
Methodists are Christian believers
who order our worship, our churches, and our spiritual formation after
the model developed during the Wesleyan Revival in the mid 1700s.If you'd like to learn more about
The United Methodist Church, you can visit its
Web site for general information on Methodism. To read about what
we believe click on
Beliefs. There is also a booklet called "Questions
& Answers" by Thomas S. McAnally that provides an overview of the
Methodist Tradition. You can pick one up at the church office or
in one of our visitor centers throughout the building.
What will the Sunday worship
service be like?
That all depends on the service you
attend. The 8:30 "Early Early" service tends to be more
intimate, while the 10:55 service is more upbeat. Both offer
traditional and contemporary elements. We sing classic hymns and
modern worship songs. We have proclamations of faith and special
music. We pray for one another, love on one another, and worship
together. We follow a traditional order of service with some new
twists and in everything strive to allow the Holy Spirit to have
control. The same Bible message is offered in both services but
the sermon is never the same twice.
The first Sunday of every month is
Communion Sunday in adherence to the traditional Methodist value of
Constant Communion.
Do I have to be a church member to
take Communion?
No. In the United Methodist
church we practice "Open Communion." This simply means that communion
is available to any and all who wish to share in God's grace.
How do I dress for Sunday Worship?
However you are comfortable
dressing. We believe it is more important to focus on worship instead
of clothing.
How long are worship services?
Worship services usually last about
an hour but we do allow for the occasional need to run slightly over
and we always strive to allow God to dictate the flow of worship above
our schedule.
Are there things for my child to do
during worship services?
All children are invited to attend
services with their parents.
During all services, our nursery is
available for children ages birth through 2-years.
And, during 10:55 worship service
Little Children's Church is available for Preschoolers and Elementary
kids in grades K - 2nd. In addition, children in grades
3rd through 5th are invited to head over to Children's Church after
our the "Children Sermon" segment.
If you have a teenager, they are
invited to attend the service with you. Many of our youth often sit
together and would welcome having your teenager join them. There are
also youth activities for them on Sunday nights and throughout the
week. More
about our Youth Ministries.
All of our children's and youth
workers are Safe Sanctuary Certified.
What is Safe Sanctuary?
The objective of our Safe Sanctuary
policy is to ensure a safe, secure Christian atmosphere for all
children and youth during church-sponsored events and worship
services. More information and a copy of our policy can be found here.
We believe that church should be the safest place you can take your
children.
